Updates: Week of June 15th to 19th: Hi Everyone! This is the last week for new material and both of the topics are short! The final assignment is due next Monday.
This is really important:
If you are planning to re-write either or both of your Term 1 tests (Kinetics & Equilibrium), you MUST sign up for ONE day and fill out the on-line registration (https://www.sd8.bc.ca/stage-3-registration). The possible dates/times are as follows:
Wednesday, June 17th (Block 1) 12:00-3:00
Thursday, June 18th (Block 3) 12:00-3:00
Monday, June 22nd (Block 3) 9:00-12:00
Tuesday, June 23rd (Block 1) 9:00-12:00
Please stick to your regular block schedule so that it doesn't interfere with your other classes. It would be a good idea to come about 20 minutes early so that I can get everyone set up on time. Please make sure you sign up and register as soon as possible so that I will have a space and test(s) for you.

Week of June 8th to 12th:
Hi Chemistry 12 Students!
I hope you are all well!
We are getting close to the end. I am so very proud of you all for sticking this through to the end! The self-motivation and self-reliance skills that you have probably gained will serve you well.
This week's theme is TITRATIONS! There will be 2 topics, one short and one long. I have also created a couple of videos demonstrating what titrations look like in the lab. After Titrations, there are only 2 topics left. These would be Net Ionic Equations and Metal/Non-metal Oxides. They are both relatively short. I have posted your assignment for this last unit and it is due on Monday June 22nd. This is the last thing you need to hand in for marks!
I am scheduling the Equilibrium and Kinetics Test re-writes for June 17th afternoon (2211), 18th afternoon (4433), 22nd morning (3344), and 23rd morning (1122). These are the remaining double block days. I am really trying to avoid interfering with your other courses. It would be really helpful if you could tell me which day you are planning on coming in to do your re-writes (if at all). This will help me make sure that I have room for you to write, copies of the test, etc, and protocols in place for coming into the school.
I will be posting videos for Electrochemistry just in case you want to get introduced to the material before you go into college or university. These would be completely OPTIONAL.
Be safe, happy, and enjoy the upcoming GRAD 2020 festivities!

Week of May 26th to 31st:
Hi Chemistry 12 Students!
I hope you had an enjoyable long weekend!
This week will be brought to you by the letter "K"! We will be doing Ka and Kb calculations. It will probably take a few videos to get through the different types. I will post very short practice in between followed by a longer practice at the end.
This will be the only topic for this week, but remember that your assignment for Acid-Base #1 is due this week.

Week of May 19th to 22nd:
Hi Everyone!
I hope you are all well and had time to enjoy the long weekend!
I have posted the last 2 lessons for the "Acid-Base #1 Unit". Your assignment will be due next week on Friday the 30th.
Next week, we will start the last required unit, "Acid-Base#2". I will probably record lessons for Electrochemistry, but this will mostly to introduce the topic for university. You can watch them if you are interested in having a little more preparation for first year chemistry. I have not yet decided whether or not I will create the practice "assignments" to accompany the videos.
I am also trying to figure out the most efficient way to send you mark print outs. I will send them as soon as I figure out how. It will probably be via e-mail.
Have a great week and never hesitate to contact me at any time.

Week of May 11th to 15th:
Hi everyone!
Here is what it coming up for this week. There will be one lesson this week, "pH, pOH, and pKw". This is an important concept going forward into the next unit, so I want to try to make sure you have a good handle on it before moving to the next topic.
I have posted the assignment for this unit (for marks) just in case you want to get started on it, but it is not due for a while. After this week, we will have only 2 more lessons for the unit. We will do those next week.
As always, feel free to email me anytime if you have any questions.
Be well!

Week of May 4th to 8th:
Hi Everyone!
I have marked and returned your Solubility Assignments. Well done all!
I have extended to suggested completion date for last week's topics and will post one video lesson for this week on Wednesday. As always, there will be an accompanying practice and a follow-up video of me going over each question in detail. The new topic for this week is "The Equilibrium of it All".
Have a great week!
Ms. McGregor
Week of April 27th to May 1st:
Hi Everyone!
I am looking forward to seeing how you got on with your Solubility Assignments! I hope you had a nice weekend!
We are ready to start the next unit, "Acids & Bases #1".
Please try to stay caught up using the "due dates" which are really just suggested completion dates. At the end of the unit, we will do the assignment which will be the only thing that you need to submit and the only thing for marks.
This week, we will be covering: 1. Introduction to Acids and Bases 2. Conjugate Acid/Base Pairs 3. Relative Strengths of Acids & Bases 4. K values
As always, feel free to connect with me via e-mail and I will schedule a few live Zoom meetings close to when the assignment is due so that you can ask questions with that format.
Week of April 20th to 24th:
I will be doing 4 Live meetings this week for students to ask questions and get any help they might need. They will be as follows:
Wednesday, April 22nd from 2:00-3:00pm Thursday, April 23rd from 2:00-3:00pm Friday, April 24th from 10:30-11:30am and 2:00-3:00pm
Hopefully students might be able to make one of those times. It is completely OPTIONAL and they can always ask questions via e-mail if they prefer. I will be sending out the link and password using their sd8net.sd8.bc.ca account early this week.
I will also be finishing up the Solubility unit this week with a few more video lessons. The assignment for this is due on Monday, April 27th. Our next unit, Acids & Bases will start next week.
Week of April 14th to 19th:
I have posted video lessons for the the unit that we started before spring break. There are 10 videos in all (6 lessons and 4 going over the answers to the practice). These are in the Google Classroom that all students have access to now. They sign in with their 'sd8net.sd8.bc.ca' e-mail account. Students are instructed to watch the video tutorial, complete some practice on what was learned, and then check their answers either by watching a video of me going over the answers or by viewing the key as a pdf file. None of these need to be submitted to me, but have 'due dates' attached. These dates are suggested completion dates only so that they don't get too far behind. I will post the assignment for the unit by the end of this week (Thursday or Friday) for students to complete and submit to me. This will be due NEXT Friday and I will attach instructions on how to submit it to me at that time. I am intending to schedule a few on-line Live opportunities for students next week. I encourage students to drop in if they have any questions about the work so far, have technology questions, or just to say hi. The schedule and information will be posted on the Google Classroom. Alternatively, students should not hesitate to drop me a message at any time if they have any questions or issues with the work posted. I also welcome any feedback on this whole process as it is new for all of is.
Week of April 6th to 9th:
I am still time trying to make sure that I have had contact with all students, assessed their needs, and made sure that they have access to Google Classroom. Since almost all students seem to have access to Google Classroom and are familiar with the platform, I will be using that primarily to post instructional materials, but I will still be posting things here to keep everyone in the loop. As an aside, I just learned Google Classroom late last week and am not really familiar with all its capabilities. Please be patient.
Towards the end of this week (Wednesday or Thursday), I will try to post a few lessons in video format on Google Classroom for students to watch. These 2 videos will be something we have covered already (the first few concepts in the Solubility unit), but I imagine a review of that might be in order.
I will be reducing the curriculum a bit in order to make sure that students get the most important concepts from the course. I still have no idea how assessment is going to work and we have not really heard anything clearly stated from the Ministry of Education on this.
I hope that you are all well and taking care of yourselves
