I will be posting the remainder of the topics for Chemistry 11, so it might be possible for you to finish the course this week.
I will be doing an overview of the 2 topics for the Reactions Unit and the assignment is due this Friday. I will also be posting the 3 topics we have for the Stoichiometry Unit this week. The assignment for that will be due on Tuesday the 23rd. Everything must be in to me by the 23rd so that I can do report cards by the 26th. This is a hard deadline I'm afraid.
Take care and stay healthy!

Week of June 8th to 12th:
Hi Chemistry 11 students!
I hope you are all well! There are only a few more topics to do in Chemistry 11. I will still post some OPTIONAL video lessons for those who might be interested, but for the most part, we are nearing the end of the course. Well done for sticking it through to the end! I am so very proud of you!
This week, we are doing 2 topics from the Reactions Unit. The essential topics are Balancing Equations and Energy in Reactions. Next week, we will start and finish the Stoichiometry Unit. It is a short unit as well. And that's it!
I am looking forward to taking a look at your Mole Assignments this weekend. I will schedule and post a couple of Live Zoom meetings so that you can ask questions about the assignment if needed. The links will be emailed to you today.
Have a terrific week and stay healthy!

Week of May 26th to 31st:
Hi Chemistry 11 Students!
I hope you had an enjoyable long weekend!
We will be doing 2 important topics this week, Mixed Mole Problems and Molarity. These are especially important if you are considering going on in chemistry.

Week of May 19th to 22nd:
Hi Everyone!
I hope you are all doing well and were able to enjoy your long weekend!
Please remember that your Measurement Assignment is due today by the end of the day. I will be trying this week to send out mark print outs via email after I mark the assignment so that you know where you are at.
I have posted the lessons for the week. There are 3 lessons, but there are all very much related. We will be skipping some of the Mole Unit so that we can make sure to finish the last 2 (really short) units. They are really important concepts if you are planning to take Chemistry 12.
Hang in there everyone and stay safe!

Week of May 11th to 15th:
Hi Everyone!
At the beginning of this week, I will post video reviews of the topics in the Measurement Unit. I will also post the assignment to be handed in for marks. I realized that there is a long weekend coming up, so the due date is now Tuesday, May 19th.
Towards the end of the week (Thursday?) I will post the first lesson for the next unit, "The Mole". This will hopefully give you some time to do the assignment for the last unit before we start the next.
Be well and enjoy your long weekend!

Week of May 4th to May 8th:
Hi Everyone!
I will be posting video lessons for the last 2 topics in the Measurement Unit (Dimensional Analysis and Molar Mass) early this week. Next week, I will post video review all of the topics in this units and have the Measurement Assignment due (for marks) on Monday, May 18th. The Assignment will be posted for you this Friday so that you will have more than enough time to work on it, get extra instruction through the review videos, and submit it. I will also schedule a few live Zoom meetings so that you can ask me questions about the material and/or the assignment.
Have a wonderful week!
Ms. McGregor
Week of April 27th to May 1st:
I have marked and returned all of the Bonding Assignments that were due on Friday. They were well done!
We are ready to start the next unit, "Measurement". This begins the more mathematical aspect of chemistry. It is important that students have access to a calculator for the remainder of the course. Given that we are doing this remotely, their phone will work, but they might have to download an app to get the more scientific functionalities. They will need the EE or EXP key.
This week, we will be covering: 1. Measurement and Uncertainty 2. Scientific Notation 3. Significant Figures Hopefully, students are able to stay caught up using the "due dates" which are really just suggested completion dates. At the end of the unit, we will do the assignment which will be the only thing that they need to submit and the only thing for marks.
As always, students should feel free to connect with me via e-mail and I will schedule a few live Zoom meetings close to when their assignment is due so that they can ask questions with that format.
Week of April 20th to 24th:
I will be doing 2 Live meetings this week for students to ask questions and get any help they might need. They will be as follows:
Wednesday, April 22nd from 10:30-11:30 Friday, April 24th from 9:00-10:00am
Hopefully they might be able to make one of those times. It is completely OPTIONAL and they can always ask questions via e-mail if they prefer. I will be sending out the link and password using their sd8net.sd8.bc.ca account early this week.
I will also be finishing up the Bonding Unit this week and their assignment is due Friday, April 24th. Video lessons for the next unit, Measurement, will be posted next week.
Week of April 14th to 19th:
I have posted the video lessons for the rest of the unit that we started before spring break. There are 12 videos in all (6 lessons and 6 going over the answers to the practice). These are in the Google Classroom that all students have access to now. They sign in with their 'sd8net.sd8.bc.ca' e-mail account. Students are instructed to watch the video tutorial, complete some practice on what was learned, and then check their answers either by watching a video of me going over the answers or by viewing the key as a pdf file. None of these need to be submitted to me, but have 'due dates' attached. These dates are suggested completion dates only so that they don't get too far behind. I will post the assignment for the unit by the end of this week (Thursday or Friday) for students to complete and submit to me. This will be due NEXT Friday and I will attach instructions on how to submit it to me at that time. I am intending to schedule a few on-line Live opportunities for students next week. I encourage students to drop in if they have any questions about the work so far, have technology questions, or just to say hi. The schedule and information will be posted on the Google Classroom. Alternatively, students should not hesitate to drop me a message at any time if they have any questions or issues with the work posted. I also welcome any feedback on this whole process as it is new for all of is.
Week of April 6th to 9th:
I am still time trying to make sure that I have had contact with all students, assessed their needs, and made sure that they have access to Google Classroom. Since almost all students seem to have access to Google Classroom and are familiar with the platform, I will be using that primarily to post instructional materials, but I will still be posting things here to keep everyone in the loop. As an aside, I just learned Google Classroom late last week and am not really familiar with all its capabilities. Please be patient.
Towards the end of this week (Wednesday or Thursday), I will try to post a few lessons in video format on Google Classroom for students to watch. I will be reducing the curriculum a bit in order to make sure that students get the most important concepts from the course. I still have no idea how assessment is going to work and we have not really heard anything clearly stated from the Ministry of Education on this.
I hope that you are all well and taking care of yourselves
